Inner Child Work
Inner child work is the idea that the feelings, needs and beliefs we had as children still live on inside us. When those needs weren't met, adult reactions can feel much bigger than the situation in front of us.
Why it can help
By noticing when a younger part of you has been stirred up, you can respond with the understanding and protection you may not have received then. Over time this can ease shame and build a steadier sense of safety.
Going gently
- Start with comforting things — a favourite childhood food, song or place.
- You don't need to revisit painful memories to offer care.
- If strong memories surface, ground yourself and consider working with a therapist.
